Mary Poppins
For a classic costume that can easily get the chic treatment, go for everyone’s favourite nanny: Mary Poppins, that’s who.

Using Lauren Conrad as inspiration, all you need is a classic white shirt, black skirt, a red bow tie, an umbrella, and a hat. Try Joe Fresh’s Oxford Shirt ($29), H&M’s Circular Skirt ($20) and this red tuxedo bowtie from amazon ($6).

Mrs. Doubtfire
Toodle-loo! Pay tribute to the late Robin Williams by dressing up as one of his most famous roles: Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire, dear.

A Real Housewife of Orange County

Try a bodycon dress in a bright hue, like Guess by Marciano’s Bandage Dress ($148); a long, blonde, wavy wig, like Costume Super Center’sversion ($16); and a sky-high pair of sparkly heels, like Aldo’s Britany High-Heel Sandals, (were $80, now $40).

Carrie Bradshaw
We’ve seen girls dress up as Carrie Bradshaw for years now, but their costumes are generally inspired from the tutu look in the opening credits. Try channelling the sex wrtier in an outfit that’s much more chic (and warm!) by sporting a slinky spaghetti-strap dress, a fur coat, and wild, curly hair. Total ’90s.

Pick up a fur coat from a thrift store or try Topshop’s Monroe Sheepskin Rever Collar Coat ($1071) which you’re bound to get a ton of wear out of even when the holiday is over. Also try Topshop’s Lace Hem Slip Dress ($68) and go for Revlon’s Perfect Heat ½” Ceramic Curling Iron ($12) for the perfect Carrie curls.

Cher Horowitz
Literally the polaroid of perfection, or however the song goes, Cher Horowitz totally makes like the coolest costume for any girl who grew up in the ’90s. Plus, you probably already have everything the look requires.

The costume is as simple as it can be. Try Zara’s Structural Blazer ($149); Zara’sPleated Skirt;($49); and American Apparel’sOver-the-Knee Sock ($22). Be sure to carry around lots of shopping bags, and curl your hair under at the bottom for the classic, innocent “Cher” look.

Phoebe Buffay
Another ’90s girl, channel the hilarious Friends coffee shop singer/masseuse with just a few essentials from your old wardrobe.

Go for a classic vest like Vests by Charlotte‘s black wool version ($120); a plain knit, like J.Crew’s Textured Slouchy Sweater (US $114); a funky hair accessory like Claire’sChiffon Double Bow Hair Clip ($6); and, of course, a choker, like this stretch henna version from eBay ($5). Carry around a guitar, learn a verse of “Smelly Cat,” and have a great night!

We’re all for costumes that are both easy and recognizable, and this look from There’s Something About Mary is the perfect way to go.

Try a red long-sleeve dress, like ASOS’sPlunge Asymmetric Skirt Bodycon Dress ($47); classic red lipstick, like Bite Beauty’s Matte Crème Lip Crayon ($28); and a strong hair gel, like Garnier Fructis’s Invisible Extra Strong Gel ($9).

A Golden Girl
If your heart is true, and you’re a pal and a confidant, then this Halloween, you deserve to be a Golden Girl. We say, grab three of your girlfriends and and channel all four of the lovely ladies: Sophia, Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose.

For this, you’ll need a short grey wig, that can differ depending on the character. For Sophia, try Buy Costume’s Mom Wig ($15). And for a Blanche-approved outfit, go for Topshop ‘sRelaxed Mensy Silk Blazer ($315); Topshop’sAdele Dress by TFNC ($63); and Bauble Bar Rumba Gem Drops Earrings, ($32).

Hitchcock’s Blonde
For a costume that’s equal parts chic and spooky, go for Tippi Hedrin’s classic character in Hitchcock’s The Birds.

To channel the look perfectly, take inspiration from Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere. Go for a classic tweed skirt suit (one in pale green would be best), like Kohl’sGloria Vanderbilt Weed Suit Set (was $160, now $125) and pin your hair pack into a ’60s-style chignon.
