By now, our closets are filled with pencil skirts for work, midi skirts for the weekend, and maxi skirts for tropical getaways. But whatever happened to the miniskirt?
Today, we’re so pleased to inform you that this leg-lengthening little wardrobe number is making a comeback, and it’s seriously cooler than ever.
The Look: Skater Miniskirt
Always a fan of showing off those lengthy gams, Taylor Swift donned a black flippy miniskirt when running around NYC. She kept the look simple by pairing it with a cotton tee and sensible heels.
For an edgier take on Taylor’s skater-inspired skirt, try Ted Baker’s Leather Panel Skirt ($475) that pairs perfectly with everything from a loose graphic tee to a fitted knit.
Go for a more sophisticated silhouette while maintaining the fun flippy look with a fit-and-flare style, like Club Monaco’s Julina Skirt ($150).
Give the skater skirt a wintery boost, with Tory Burch’s Kathleen Skirt (US $295). It’s perfect with black opaque tights and edgy heels for any holiday event his year.
The Look: Classic Miniskirt
Another avid fan of showing off her killer legs, Alexa Chung sported a chic blue miniskirt, teamed with a white shirt and black blazer at the Chanel show this season.
Opt for a sleek mini in a neutral hue, like J.Crew’s Zip-Pocket Mini(US $118). This piece works great with a light sweater at the office, and a pretty blouse for cinq-a-sept cocktails.
Equal parts edgy and sporty, French Connection’s Luxe Leather Mini Skirt ($228) is a fun piece to add to your skirt lineup. Dress it up with a chunky sweater and boots, or down with a tee and sneakers.
Pay tribute to the great ladies of the ’90s (Spears and Horowitz, naturally) in a sweet little plaid mini, like Aritzia’s Wilfred Clairaut Skirt ($110).
The Look: Mini Wrap Skirt
Do like Olivia Palermo and opt for a more sexy and sophisticated twist on the typical miniskirt, with a cool thigh-baring wrap style.
Go for a fun printed option, like this miniskirt from Zara ($60). For the perfect date night look, team it with a relaxed blouse and sky high pumps.
Equal parts glam and sexy, Topshop’s Tinsel Wrap Mini Skirt ($58) will get you through holiday season and beyond.
We couldn’t help throwing Isabel Marant’s Elmira Sequined Silk-Georgette Mini Wrap Skirt ($2275) into the roundup. We may not be able to shell out a few months’ rent on this sparkly number, but we can admire it, right?
The Look: Printed Miniskirt
For the easiest way to inject some fun into your wardrobe, go for a printed miniskirt, like Selena Gomez’s boho-chic option at the Louis Vuitton show in Paris this year.
Cute and sweet with a feline edge, Kate Spade’s Cyber Cheetah Box Skirt ($298) makes a great addition to your off-duty wardrobe. Team it with a fitted sweater and ballet flats for a feminine look.
Play with print and volume by adding ASOS’s Pull&Bear Digital Floral Scuba Skirt ($43) to your after-hours wardrobe. Our favourite way to wear it? With a boxy top and chunky loafers.
For a full, printed option perfect for wherever your busy week may take you, opt for H&M’s Patterned Skirt ($70). It teams perfectly with a blazer at the office, and a simple tee on the weekend.
The Look: Not-So-Simple Miniskirt
Try embellishment, layers, tiers, slits, or all of the above with your miniskirt this season, like Jennifer Aniston’s version at Toronto’s film fest this year.
A great addition to your off-duty wear, go for Sam Edelman’s Ostrich Feather Skirt (was $169, now $118). Sport it with a blouse and sky-high heels in the evening, or dare to wear it with a simple tee and flats during the day.
Keep it classic with a clean shape and sleek slit, like Joe Fresh’s wear-anywhere Sueded Wrap Skirt ($59).
Add a healthy dose of fringe to your wardrobe with Shopbop’s Riller & Fount Rocco Fringe Skirt ($175). Team it with a printed blouse and strappy heels for an elegant boho look.
