It comes as no surprise that we get a little jealous when we see our favourite stars primped and prepped to perfection for every event. And this year was no different.
From their long, luscious locks and fun, beachy crops, to perfect pink pouts and sultry smoky eyes, celebs gave us some serious beauty envy at awards shows, galas, concerts and other red carpet events.
And so, at the end of 2014 we’re rounding up 20 of our favourite beauty looks of the year.
1. Blake Lively’s Blonde Bombshell Tribute
Blake Lively was in true blonde bombshell form at the Mr. Turner premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Her covetable golden locks cascaded past her shoulders in the effortlessly chic way they always do, her skin was perfectly sunkissed, her eyes were lightly highlighted with a sparking champagne shadow and lips were painted a girly shade of soft bubblegum pink.
2. Emily Blunt’s Pink Pout
Emily Blunt dared to pair bright pink lipstick with her fire engine red gown at the Edge Of Tomorrow premiere in New York City in May. She kept her look polished despite the clashing hues by wearing her hair pulled back in a cool, sleek updo.
3. Keira Knightley’s Smoky Eyes
While attending award ceremonies and red carpet events to promote her latest film, Keira Knightley has donned the perfect chocolate smoky eyes time and time again. She keeps her look soft by teaming the dramatic eyes with loose waves and a natural-hued lip.
4. Sarah Jessica Park’s Met Gala Updo
At the Charles James: Beyond Fashion Costume Institute Gala at the MET in May, Sarah Jessica Parker teamed her extravagant Oscar de la Renta gown with an equally dramatic 50s-inspired updo, complete with flowers cradling her bottom hairline.
5. Cate Blanchett’s Movie Star Look
Cate Blanchett achieved that classic movie star look at this year’s Golden Globe Awards, where she sported a flawless complexion, perfectly defined eyes, pink lipstick, and a Grace Kelly-inspired ‘do.
8. Diane Kruger’s Braid Drama
For the premiere of The Bridge in July, Diane Kruger chose this intricate double braid that we’re dying to learn how to mimic. This futuristic style perfectly complemented her elaborate Mary Katrantzou dress for a high-fashion look.
9. Reese Witherspoon’s Classic Southern Look
We’re forever in love with Reese Witherspoon’s classic southern belle look, like her feminine makeup she wore to the The Good Lie premiere in September. With her cat-eye liner, rosy cheeks and pink lips, this classic look is one every girl should know how to master.
10. Jennifer Lawrence’s Angelic Look
Never one to disappoint on the red carpet, Jennifer Lawrence attended the premiere of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 in November with just the right amount of edge to this sweet, feminine look. Wearing a shimmering champagne Dior number, Jennifer wore her wavy lob in a loose updo, pale pink lipstick and the most elegant smoky eyes we’ve ever seen.
11. Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent Tribute
Angelina Jolie channelled her alter ego Maleficent at the premiere for the film in May, with a flawless, milky complexion, defined eyes and a sleek and simple updo for a look that’s seriously fierce.
12. Lizzy Caplan’s Elegant Look
At this year’s Emmy Awards, Lizzy Caplan from The Masters of Sex donned a slick updo to show off the low-cut back of this Donna Karan Atelier gown, and opted for an extra smoky eye in shades of taupey-purple, ivory, copper, and chocolate brown.
13. Emma Stone’s Playful Crop
Emma Stone debuted her new, fun crop at the Venice Film Festival this summer, boasting a side swept bang and naturally wavy locks. We love her fiery red locks mane with this deep evergreen gown.
14. Amy Adams’ Black Tie Look
Amy Adams went the dramatic route at the British Academy Film Awards where she sported a sleek chignon, smoky eyes and a bordeaux pout with an all-black ensemble. Amy successfully pulled off a look that’s equal parts strong and feminine… and maybe even a little bit dominatrix.
15. Olivia Palermo’s Wedding Ponytail
For her nuptials to Johannes Huebl, Olivia Palermo pulled her glossy locks into a Jenna Lyons-approved ponytail, and kept her makeup simple yet completely elegant. We love this fun, current spin on a conventional wedding look.
16. Emma Watson’s Edgy-Feminine Look
Emma Watson wowed on the red carpet so many times this year, we had to hold back from including her in this roundup more than once. Our favourite look? This edgy and powerful yet totally ladylike look from this year’s Oscars. With her locks messy and pulled back, her eyes smoky and pout painted red, we owe it to Emma for bringing the cool factor to the red carpet.
17. Cameron Diaz’s American Sweetheart Look
Feminine and effortless, Cameron Diaz looked like her true self at the The Other Woman premiere in London, England. This natural beauty opted for raspberry lips, teamed with her signature straight beachy locks and a light sunkissed glow.
18. Nina Dobrev’s Playful Look
One of our favourite looks of the year has to be Nina Dobrev’s cool-girl braid at the Teen Choice Awards in August. This messy updo was paired with dramatic smoky eyes, a bronzed goddess glow and a nude pout for a sexy yet playful look.
19. Kate Bosworth’s Red Lips
Kate Bosworth proves the classic red lip is as chic as ever at our very own Toronto International Film Festival in September. Her secret to rocking the look? Go for minimal eye makeup, a flawless complexion and a sleek and simple mane.
