From beach bashes to barbecues, our summer schedule is looking pretty great. So naturally, workwear seems to fall to the back of our minds this time of year. But hey, can you blame us?
What we need is a selection of well-curated, equally sophisticated and lightweight separates that can be mixed and matched in the AM to make getting dressed for the office a whole lot easier. Plus, an easy wardrobe means getting to snooze for an extra few minutes, making last night’s “one more drink” totally acceptable.
Swap your classic black blazer for a chic white pick, like J.Crew’s Regent Blazer in Linen ($210). Team it with sleek black cigarette pants or a printed pencil skirt.
Having a few classic jewellery picks on hand will help you accessorize your look in no time. Go for a delicate necklace, like Kate Spade New York’s Letter Pendant Necklace ($73).
Opt for a classic piece, like a printed wrap dress, for a summer pick that will be in your wardrobe for years to come. Go with Diane von Furstenberg’s Jeanne Leopard-Print Stretch-Jersey Wrap Dress (was $398, now $199).
Floral Pencil Skirt
We know, we know, florals are all but groundbreaking in the summer, but donning the print when the sun is out just feels so right. For a standout option, go for Ted Baker’s Gretta Fuchsia Floral Pencil Skirt ($230).
Plum Hold-All Tote
A hold-all tote is a true workwear staple. We’re loving Saint Laurent’s Leather Tote ($950) in plum, for an everyday bag that’ll go with just about anything.
Pale Blue Button-Down
We can never get enough of a great boyfriend shirt. White, of course is a staple, but a pale blue option is a great pick to pair with both your black basics and printed separates. Go for Gap’s Fitted Boyfriend Oxford Shirt ($55).
We rely on scarves in the summertime for two reasons: 1) they are an easy way to brighten up any look, and 2) when wrapped the right way, they can totally prevent humidity from getting the best of our hairdo on the commute. Try Mango’s Floral Print Scarf (was $30, now $21).
Dresses are always an easy way to look the part with minimal effort. For a sophisticated pick, go for a form-fitting number in light colours, like Club Monaco’s Lizeth Dress ($199).
Opt for a few classic pieces of jewellery that can easily be added to any look. What’s topping our must-haves list at the moment? Larsson & Jennings’ CM Silver watch ($430).
A lightweight sweater is a great piece to pair with form-fitting bottoms. Give your wardrobe a nautical boost with a striped option, like Madewell’s Sunview Sweater ($72).
Loose, Printed Trousers
Beat the heat in loose pants in a wild print, like Joe Fresh’s Print Softie Pant ($29). Dress them up with a pair of pumps and classic accessories.
For a sleek pair of shoes that are aren’t only office-appropriate but are seriously chic, try a neutral pair of mules, like Nine West’s Papagos (was $150, now $90).
A lightweight tee is a great way to deal with summer heatwaves while adding a cool element to your look. Make this casual staple work-appropriate by teaming it with a pencil skirt or sleek trousers, and a pair of pumps. Try Joe Fresh’s V-Neck Tee ($10).
Flowy options are always great picks when the sun’s rays are beaming hard. Choose a versatile option, like Aritzia’s Babaton Jude Skirt (was $110, now $99).
Add a touch of elegance to your look with a pair of easy studs, like Gorjana’s Trinity Knot Studs ($48).
It may be hot outside, but your office building could feel like a frosty escape. A cardigan is a must, so choose one in a neutral hue so you can throw it on over just about anything. Try J.Crew Collection’s Cashmere Long Open Cardigan Sweater ($238).
Swap your classic black pants for a printed option, like Zara’s Printed Cigarette Trousers (was $50, now $30). Team them with a blouse in a bright hue for a summer-ready look.
Ballet flats are always a great footwear option for in and out of the office. Invest in a classic pick, like French Sole’s Classic Ballet Black Leather with Black Trim(£65) which you’re bound to get a ton of wear out of.
Switch your dark winter blouses out for options in brights and pastels. Try Banana Republic’s Light Silk Sleeveless Popover Blouse ($95).
Casual Friday Denim
Casual Friday? Go for a pair of boyfriend jeans teamed with pumps and a printed blouse. Try AG’s Drew Relaxed Jeans ($215).
